On Thursday, Sept. 24 MULYP Presents, “An Introduction to Party Politics”, a panel discussion.  Panelists include Shelby County Democratic Party Chairman Van Turner, Shelby County Republican Party Executive Director, Lakisha Watson-Moore of the Young Democrats of America, and Evann Freeman of Senator Lamar Alexander’s office.  The panelists will answer your question about the political parties, and what they mean to you and to the political process.  Are Democrats really the default party for African-Americans?  Do Republicans only care about rich people?  Hear responses to these myths and more, Thursday the 24th, 6pm at the Crescent Club (6075 Poplar Avenue).

In lieu of our next monthly general meeting,  please plan to attend the Town Hall Debate.

Town Hall Debate to pair up Party Chairs to debate Health Care issues. Come out to show support for SCRP Chairman Wiseman and show that we’re opposed to ObamaCare!!!

Republican Chairman Lang Wiseman and Democratic Chair Van Turner will be paired up with two local High School students to debate health care issues. Proceeds will benefit the Memphis Urban Debate League, an organization that sponsors a debate program for Memphis City School students.

Tickets are available for a $10 donation to the Memphis Urban Debate League. We would like to have at least 200 Republicans there to cheer on Lang and his debate partner, Shapria Williams from East High School.
